Gregg is a wonderful guitar teacher. He has a friendly, patient, and encouraging style that makes learning fun. In our first session, Gregg listened carefully to my interests and then customized a lesson plan that met my needs. He adjusts it each week, so I’m constantly being challenged. I also like that Gregg picks songs from my favorite bands as the examples.

Since I’ve had limited experience with musical instruments, I wasn’t sure what it would be like to start from scratch as an adult. In just 2 months of lessons, Gregg has demonstrated that you can learn how to play the guitar no matter what age. It’s worth the investment to spend an hour a week with a real musician who knows what he’s doing. It’s also clear that Gregg loves what he does, and his passion for teaching others is just the inspiration you need to stay motivated and committed to learning how to play.

It’s worth noting that Gregg spends lot of his free time teaching guitar to kids for the nonprofit Guitars Not Guns. By supporting Gregg as a teacher, I also feel good about supporting his work in the community.

I highly recommend Gregg as a guitar instructor. In addition to a wealth of musical knowledge and his talent for teaching, his overall passion for music is fun and contagious! When I got my first guitar this past year, I tried to teach myself through DVDS, online lessons and made very little progress. I’m so happy I decided to call Gregg. Nothing beats the one-on-one instruction that he provides. His lessons are fun, and he tailors each lesson according to my skill level and what I’m interested in learning. In addition to learning the scales, open chords, blues progression – I am now playing my first songs and am able to strum along to new songs with our weekly meet up group (other guitar students I have met thanks to him!) Gregg is an excellent guitar player. But more importantly for his students, he’s an extremely competent teacher. He is well versed in teaching techniques and also patient enough to stick with students as they absorb new information.

For my own part, I have been playing guitar for about 25 years but had been stuck for some time. Working with Gregg, I experienced a quantum leap in my skills. Gregg not only taught new scales and techniques, he also got me motivated to practice. One thing that I particularly like about Gregg is that I can either come to the lesson with an idea of what I want to learn and we will work on it OR I can have no idea what I want to do and Gregg will offer new ideas. Greg does a great job teaching you how to understand and create music. He does so with a patience and passion for the music. Rather than have you merely memorize scales and songs, he teaches you the theory behind it, so that you understand it and can figure out songs on your own and improvise. He’s got a great studio with a variety of guitars to play.

I’ve just started taking lessons with Gregg after an unsuccessful attempt with another local shop. After only a few lessons, I’ve found Gregg to be very professional and dedicated – not only to music but to teaching. He is patient, and quite versatile. After only two lessons I’m playing chords but also a little bit of blues and a little bit of flamenco. Very enjoyable and his studio is a nice, comfortable set-up which provides one-on-one instruction. Highly recommend!

After unsuccessfully attempting to teach myself how to play guitar over the years, I decided to find an instructor. I found Gregg on craigslist last summer and started lessons right away.
Gregg is a great guy, easy to get along with, and truly loves what he does. He helped me learn the basics so that I could start playing some songs after only a few sessions. He taught to my ability level and had me identify areas I wanted to improve upon.
He invited me to open mic nights so that I could see what his other students were doing. His Sunday jam sessions in the park were a great way for me to get motivated to practice more!
Gregg also inspired me to get involved with the Guitars Not Guns chapter he started in DC. I am now teaching beginner lessons to at risk youth in an effort to keep them off the streets.
I’d recommend Gregg as a teacher to anyone at any level of playing!

Gregg is a very patient, caring, kind, astute teacher. I have taken guitar from other teachers in the past and it never sticks. That has changed since I have taken guitar lessons from this man.

He begins the lessons by asking you what you want to learn, where you’re coming from and how you’d like to proceed, how much time you have to practice and tailors his lessons and recommendations to what you can do, without ever making you feel guilty for being out of practice and if you’re busy like me, that’s much appreciated.

Another very cool thing is that he has a bunch of guitars you can use while you’re taking your lesson so you don’t have to haul your guitar on the metro or bus. Gregg is very knowledgeable about different types of music and also continues his own training which makes him an even better teacher.

On top of all this, he has a positive attitude, a love and passion for music and a great heart; recently he started a non-profit Guitars not Guns chapter in DC- GuitarsNotGuns.org- check it out!

Gregg is a nice guy who really cares about the craft, the musicianship, and the community. Unlike others who merely *can* play or *have* played for many years, Gregg has a curriculum as well as insight into how to develop one’s guitar playing competence. The little guitar studio from which he teaches is pretty unique; a den dedicated to the art of someone who loves what he does.

As mentioned, he’s also very invested in the community: offering opportunities for guitar circles, his charity Guitars-not-Guns, as well as his support of the local Bloom Bar.

My daughter Zoe (the one who wrote a review on 12/18/08) has been taking lessons from Gregg for a couple years and it has been a great experience for her and for us. She has learned so much and loves going to her lessons. Gregg has been a really good teacher. He is patient, flexible, professional and can really teach children. My daughter has never been bored and she practices at home often — she even tries to play songs on her own by downloading from the internet and from song books she has been given as presents. I am very happy with the instruction and with Gregg as a teacher and as a person. His studio is small, clean, well equipped and it has a cozy feeling. I highly recommend him.
