I had bass lessons with Gregg this year and I really enjoyed it. I was a beginner with bass, yet I feel I managed to advance a lot during the months I took classes with Gregg. He is very patient, and understood where I wanted to get with my bass. He was flexible in terms of my classes, which was important to me due to my schedule. I will continue my classes and I have recommended Gregg to some of my friends too !!

I recently purchased a gift voucher from DC Guitar Lessons for a Christmas present. Gregg responded to my request in a very timely manner and helped me tailor the gift to my particular needs. I felt that the price of the lessons was reasonable and fair, and I fully recommend him to others seeking a unique gift.

I have been taking lessons with Gregg since June and he has been an excellent teacher and advocate for music and the arts through his guitar lesson instructions as well his time with the Guitars Not Guns NGO. I have improved greatly with my guitar skills to the point that the other day I played some songs for my Mom, and she was stunned to know I had musical talent let alone could play the guitar.
I highly recommend DC Guitar Lessons if you are looking to start learning or further develop your skill sets. Plus he is a great person to brainstorm with on musical ideas, as well picking out guitar equipment to work with. I just recently purchased a Breedlove Electric/Acoustic Guitar, which he originally recommended and at the time I was not 100% sure, but man the guitar is beautiful and it plays splendidly. It was an excellent recommendation and pick.

Gregg is fabulous. I had been wanting to learn the guitar for a while, and chose Gregg because of the great reviews he had gotten. He more than surpassed my hopes for a teacher. The lessons were focused on what I wanted to get out of playing the guitar, which was to be able to play and sing along to my favorite songs. He gave me great exercises to do as well as the chords for songs I was interested in, and was encouraging in a genuine way. I made great progress from my perspective in the 7 lessons I had with him.
Gregg also understands that many of his clients have a lot of other commitments and doesn’t make you feel bad when you don’t practice as much as you had wanted to. Also, if you get a 5 or 10 card pass, it’s true that he’ll refund you any unused lessons on a prorated basis. I moved, so didn’t get to use my last three lessons and he sent me off a check to refund the last three in a jiffy once I let him know.
I would recommend Gregg to anyone wanting to learn guitar!

I need to begin by thanking those who have reviewed DC Guitar Lessons on Yelp before me and the reason being is that if not for them, I would not be playing guitar right now…
About twelve years ago I decided I wanted to play guitar, so I went to the local music store and bought myself one. Friends encouraged me and some showed me the basics – chords and what not – and I monkeyed around here and there, but I quickly became bored because I wasn’t seeing results as quickly as I wanted…eventually, the guitar “playing” died down and soon my old guitar was relegated to the living room corner collecting dust.
Well, one night this summer I decided that it was time again to get back into the guitar playing game and googled “guitar lessons in DC” and to my good fortune Gregg’s Yelp page was one of the first results that showed up. I read the reviews, liked what I read, and emailed Gregg telling him that I was interested in taking lessons. Gregg responded a few hours later and we scheduled my first lesson.
It was at that first lesson that I realized that I got lucky – I had found an instructor who is truly passionate about teaching guitar and introducing his students to the joys that guitar playing brings with it. Gregg is extremely patient and really is there for his students. He has a saying that it is never too late to learn to play and in my case that really hits home. I don’t have aspirations to be a professional player, rather I want to have the basics (and then some) and be able to play “campfire” tunes here and there and Gregg has more than provided me with the tools and basics to allow that to happen.
Gregg’s teaching really is tailored to the individual and I truly appreciate that. I always leave each lesson energized and having learned something new (half the time I don’t realize it until the lesson is over – he kind of sneaks the learning into it without you realizing it!). He makes learning and “struggling” fun. I say struggling because like anything, learning to play guitar won’t happen overnight – rather it’s a progression and requires practice. The tricks and lesson plans he provides makes practicing fun and within a few short weeks I really began seeing results! Results that I never would have seen if I tried learning from a book or just playing chords downloaded off the Internet.
I am happy with my choice to go with Gregg and DC Guitar Lessons to begin my journey towards guitar playing and recommend anyone who is even remotely interested in learning how to play to go with DC Guitar Lessons – you won’t be disappointed. I’m not.

I agree with all the other posts so far- so I won’t reiterate these things. What I appreciated most with the lessons was Gregg’s willingness to cater to individual interest and make progress in areas/subjects that you are into at the time. It made learning enjoyable because you, as opposed to a rigid series of topics/lessons, influenced what you learned each week. That said, expect to be a well rounded player, as Gregg seems to make it all relevant and interesting.
I took roughly 7 months of lessons with Gregg as an absolute beginner and would certainly recommend him to anyone new to guitar. Based on his knowledge of the instrument and the other reviews here I think experienced players will be satisfied as well.

After a lesson with Greg I found him to be honest, helpful, and enthusiastic. He is definitely qualified to teach all levels of experience — I have been playing for a few years and needed a ‘tune up’ with my right hand technique. Greg’s advice after only one lesson has thus far proved beneficial in reducing my arm fatigue, and developing a more economic picking style for greater speed. He even offered equipment advice, and future suggestions in reaching my music goals.

I’ve been taking lessons from Gregg for 6 months now and can honestly say he’s the best guitar teacher i’ve ever had. He is very patient, easy going, and extremely knowledgeable. In addition, his prices and his flexibility regarding scheduling of lessons are outstanding. Finally, i am really impressed by his commitment to public service through organizations like Guitars Not Guns, a program to provide inner city children with free music instruction.
