I’ve been taking lessons from Gregg for about a year, though I only recently started taking lessons regularly again after a long break. I found him and many other instructors on Craigslist, but he seemed the most professional of the teachers that I found. I would highly recommend his lessons for a number of reasons (like a David Letterman countdown).
Number 5. He teaches full time and is a true professional, not some hack teaching lessons on the side while they focus on their “real” job.
Number 4. Because he teaches full time, his schedule is very flexible, so that even a busy professional can find a time to take lessons at least once a week.
Number 3. The lessons are adapted to your specific needs and skills. When it comes to adult instruction, everyone has their own way of learning. Instead of forcing the student to adapt to a fixed lesson plan, Gregg adapts the lessons to make the best use of your time.
Number 2. Based on his substantial experience, he suggests tips and tricks based on watching you practice. These tips will help you to accelerate your progress and overcome hurdles far more than any book or on-line video.
Number 1. He currently hosts Sunday night jam sessions. Students of all levels come together and jam, some playing popular chords while others play the solo melodies. Playing with other student is incredibly motivating, and it’s nice to learn, both passively and actively, from other students. I can’t emphasize enough the benefits of this opportunity. In addition, it’s always nice to meet other students learning guitar!
Again, I would highly recommend Gregg as an instructor!
